Marek Muszynski’s PhD thesis awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize!

With a great joy we inform that the PhD thesis defended in 2020 by Marek Muszyński, member of the RStyles team, has been awarded the highest prize given for a PhD thesis in Poland – the Prime Minister’s Prize.

Dr Muszyński’s thesis, entitled Validity of the overclaiming technique as a method to account for response bias in self-assessment questions. Analysis on the basis of the PISA 2012 data, was awarded for “For research with a clear practical value due to the high frequency of using questions measuring subjective beliefs about one’s own knowledge. Contributing to the answers to the questions of when human knowledge should be measured with objective test tasks (which is quite difficult and time-consuming), and when it is sufficient to ask people whether or not they have knowledge of a subject (which is cheaper and less time-consuming).”

The thesis was defended at the Institute of Sociology, Jagiellonian University, and was supervised by Prof. Jarosław Górniak.

The thesis is publicly available in the University’s repository.

Currently, Dr. Marek Muszyński continues the research commenced in the PhD thesis in the RStyles project.
